The Real Zora Neale Hurston

Walker spends a lot of time searching for information about Zora Neal Hurston. She makes up a lie about being Hurston's niece. Walker goes around and talks to different black people that lived near her or knew Hurston when she was alive. Walker notices how the black people act in the city and notices a connection to Hurston's books. Walker also discovers that Hurston did not get along with her family and only had some of the support of the community. Some of the community did not like the fact that Hurston did not agree with integration. Walker finds out that some people believed Huston was intelligent. Hurston ends up suffering from a stroke and dies in a welfare home. Hurston also did not have not have a headstone when she was buried. Walker pays for a headstone to be put on Hurston's grave. Walker feels bad for Hurston but realizes she shouldn't because Hurston would not have felt bad for herself.
